Upcoming RefWorks Webinars Available to All

Posted by M. Ascher on July 17, 2009

Can’t make one of our regularly scheduled RefWorks classes? We wish you could, as we offer customized NYMC content, targeted hands-on practice, and one-on-one assistance. But we recognize your schedules are busy.

So why not take a RefWorks webinar? RefWorks has just announced their schedule of upcoming webinars. Their educational program is uniformly excellent, so these come recommended.

Additionally, the RefWorks online tutorial is very good for an overview or to answer specific questions.

Having Trouble Logging In? Read on…

Posted by M. Ascher on July 7, 2009

As has been previously described, your library login is now a combination of library barcode and your last name. This last name is case-sensitive and must be typed exactly as it appears in our Voyager database. If you are having difficulty logging in, you can use this utility at http://library.nymc.edu/information/yourbarcode.cfm to determine how we have your last name on record:

checkbarcode

Enter your barcode here and you will be presented with your expiration date as well as your last name. As follows:

aschercheck

My last name is Ascher and I will enter it without the period. If you find that your last name is misspelled, please call Access Services at 914-594-4200 so we can correct it.

Also, please note that some of our forms, such as Auditorium Reservations and Book Recommendation forms are still using the old system to validate, using your Social Security number. This will change shortly. If you are a new student or otherwise were not previously registered in the old system, you will need to fill out a paper form or send recommendations through email. Please call 914-594-4210 if you have any further questions.

Off-Campus RefWorks Users Need New Write-N-Cite URL

Posted by M. Ascher on July 1, 2009

Due to changes in the library’s authentication method, users of RefWorks who use the Write-N-Cite (WNC) plug-in will need to make a simple change to their configuration. You may remember that you had to enter a certain URL into the “WNC Configuration Utility” in order to use WNC from off the campus network. Well, now that URL has changed, so you will need to use this one:

http://lproxy.nymc.edu:60000/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=truewnccu

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Click on Start on your computer (lower left corner).
  2. Select All Programs, then click on RefWorks, then select WNC Configuration Utility.
  3. Enter the above URL (cut and paste) into the box. Click OK.

That should take care of it. You should now be able to use RefWorks Write-N-Cite with Word as before. But do note that your password is no longer your Social Security number. Instead it is your last name. Please direct any questions or comments to the Reference Desk 914-594-4210 or Access Services 914-594-4200. Thank you.
