Yuuguu Where “We Guu”

Posted by jovyanne on May 7, 2010

Here at the HSL, we are constantly trying to find creative ways to help you wherever you might be.   In addition to being able to phone, email or IM us, we can now SHOW you how to do something instead of telling you.  How? Through a screen-sharing application called Yuuguu! You don’t have to download or install anything.  All you need is a browser, an Internet connection and a PIN.  Let me explain.

After you’ve initiated a conversation (IM or phone) with a librarian and you’ve decided to do a screen share, the librarian will give you a PIN that will allow you to see the librarian’s screen on your screen. Pretty neat, huh?

The next question is: where do you go to input this PIN?  I’m glad you asked.  The following screenshots will show you how.

Ask-a-Librarian while Searching EBSCO Databases

Posted by jovyanne on April 30, 2010

We subscribe to several EBSCO databases at the library, namely:

  • Biomedical Reference Collection: Comprehensive
  • CINAHL
  • Health Business FullText Elite
  • Nursing & Allied Health Collection: Comprehensive
  • MEDLINE Ebscohost
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection

To help you with your searches, we’ve embedded an instant messaging client within all of the above EBSCO databases.  This chat window will show up beside your search results (highlighted by the red box in the picture below).

If you have any questions on how to narrow your search results, how to obtain the full-text of an article or how to order an article, we’re here to help right within the EBSCO interface. We are working on implementing this feature on some of our other databases such as PubMed and on our catalogue, NYMCat.

Our chat hours are Mondays-Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm and Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm.

Library Launching a New Liaison Program – Meet Your Librarian Liaison!

Posted by M. Ascher on August 24, 2009

The library is launching a new library liaison program with an aim toward improving communication with and the delivery of customized services to all NYMC academic departments. This effort involves all faculty librarians who will be reaching out to the academic departments to determine needs and deliver corresponding services. The aim is to work closely with the departments to forge a stronger collaboration between the library and our academic users…no matter where they are.  Librarians want to learn more about you and your departments: the people, the culture, the subject matter, and how information resources and services are used by your constituents. Please contact your liaison to discuss opportunities, and welcome them as a potentially valuable member of your team! The complete list of liaison assignments can be found here: http://library.nymc.edu/information/liaisons.cfm on the library’s web page.

Any general questions can be directed to Marie Ascher, Head of Reference & Information Services at marie_ascher@nymc.edu or 914-594-3168.
